Described as “strikingly original” and "a new young composer to watch” by the Guardian/Observer, Robin Fiedler discovered composition as their main interest in their third year of a voice performance degree at Middlesex University and subsequently began studying with James Francis Brown and later under Martijn Padding and Calliope Tsoupaki at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag (NL). Coming second in the Middlesex University Chamber Orchestra Competition, and first in the following year won them performances of their music by the acclaimed London Firebird Orchestra and the Allegri String Quartet.
A Junior Composer Residency with the London Bel Canto Festival in 2018 brought about a premiere at Cadogan Hall and an ongoing collaboration with the Festival as well as a US lockdown premiere of their song “Cards and Kisses” through Christman Opera in New York. Their participation in the Cheltenham Festival Composer Academy 2022 included a premiere of their music by Fenella Humphreys and Mahan Esfahani under guidance of Daniel Kidane. This year’s highlights included a commission for The Arc Project in York, a crossover project as an orchestrator for Brixton Chamber Orchestra’s Grime Orchestrated Series and the participation in Adopt a Music Creator 2023 as well as premieres at the Clifton International Music Festival and Spitalfields Festival, the publication of their song cycle “Transient Voyagers” at Music Haven Publishing and the development of a new chamber opera to be premiered Summer 2024.
