Nicole Stefani is a Scottish Violist who is currently based in London. She pursued her undergraduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Lev Atlas, Tom Dunn and Jane Atkins. During her time there she participated in various side-by- side projects with Scottish Opera and the RSNO. She was also selected as ScottishEnsemble’s Young Artist of 2018 which enabled her to tour with them twice during that year. It was during these tours that she discovered a passion for outreach work after taking part in various workshops. After witnessing the joy and relief classical music brought to the lives of hospital patients, she knew outreach work was something she was determined to integrate into her career.
Nicole has a wealth of orchestral experience under her belt. She was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland from 2014-2016, and with them she was able to perform in their 2015 China Tour, as well as in the Royal Albert Hall as part of the 2016 BBC Proms. With NYOS Camerata, she was able to perform twice in the Cumnock Tryst Music Festival under the Baton of Sir James MacMillan. Nicole also freelanced numerous times with Scottish Ballet during her time in Scotland and she was fortunate enough to perform with them in their world premiere of “The Crucible” in the Edinburgh International Festival.
After graduating, Nicole was awarded a scholarship to pursue her master's degree at the Royal Academy of Music where she studied with Martin Outram. Shortly after beginning the course, she developed a performance related injury which rendered her unable to play for the best part of a year. After overcoming this, she developed a keen interest opening up the conversation surrounding musicians' injuries with the intent of dispelling some of the stigma that still surrounds it. When she resumed her studies, Nicole participated in various orchestral projects during her time at RAM and had the honour of performing under the batons of Sir Mark Elder and Ludovic Morlot as well as performing in the Royal Festival Hall as part of RAM’s bicentenary celebrations.
Nicole now enjoys varied freelance career. She has played with BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and enjoys performing a variety of musical genres with Brixton Chamber Orchestra who she regularly freelances with. In addition, Nicole loves Musical Theatre and frequently takes part in Sitz’s and workshops in association with the LMTO.
